Karzai wants justice for 90 civilians killed by US airstrike

Jordan News.Net
Thursday 4th September, 2008

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has promised "to bring justice" to villagers hit by a U.S. airstrike that Afghan officials say killed more than 90 civilians.

Afghan officials say Mr. Karzai met with elders and victims' families in the Azizabad village of western Herat province Thursday, saying he has tried for five years to prevent such incidents.

Villagers say false information about the presence of Taliban was given to coalition forces, prompting the strike. President Karzai has pledged to punish those responsible for the attack.

Both the Afghan government and the United Nations have said dozens of people - most of them women and children - died August 22, during the airstrike on the village.

The U.S.-led coalition on Tuesday issued a new report saying five to seven civilians were killed along with 30 to 35 Taliban militants.

Afghan officials say U.S. President George Bush expressed regret to Afghan President Karzai about the civilian deaths, during a conversation Wednesday by videoconference.

Separately, NATO says one of its soldiers was killed in an explosion today in southern Afghanistan. NATO did not release the soldier's nationality or details of the incident.

Also Thursday, officials say the chief judge of Afghanistan's counter-narcotics court, the Central Narcotics Tribunal, was shot and killed in the capital, Kabul, while on his way to work.

Judge Alim Hanif was working to bring influential drug traffickers to court to punish them for their crimes.

Afghanistan produces more than 90 percent of the world's opium, which is used to make heroin. Officials say powerful drug lords often are able to evade justice because of corruption.

Country of mass amnesia

The American public will never believe such story. Under the massive lies by propaganda machine in the mass media, they think what they do is right no matter what, to the ignorant, this is a case of collatoral in keeping peace. (They even coin a new phrase to justify these bull Shit.)

5 years of talking

Karzai is all talk and more interested about lining his own pockets. Seems these people siding with the americans are reaping windfalls. Everytime, these incidents happened,Karzai will talk to village elders, and maybe lined their pockets, accounting it to the US later. Shows it’s only empty talk cos' he’s been talking like this for five long years.

I believe none of the for lack of a better term news from anyone anymore.
The dead count is probably 1/4 of whats reported by them and triple what’s reported by western media sources.
I don’t believe all are dead by US bombs but I do know when using long distance war tactics there is far less control over who and how people are killed.
Maybe if Afghanistan would step up and police it’s own problems things like this would not be blamed upon western forces.
As someone pointed out lining of the pockets is what this is really about.
The other thought is about thug tactics, rapes torture, beatings, beheadings and mob murders used by the Muslim Brotherhood aka Taliban.
Afghanistan is ruled by the mob and they kill anyone who dares get out of line so the average Afghani keeps their heads down and minds their own business.
Just a thought Karzai step up and take responsibility for your own inaction and indecision.

If Mr. Karzai is strong enough?

Yes, if Mr. Karzai is strong enough and a free president of his country, he should ask all foreign forces to leave his country, and at the same time bring these human rights abusers to the international criminal court for crimes against humanity and genocide.

I believe that a president of his country has the obligation to protect his citizens, and if he is not capable to do this, he should find another job, because when his citizens are being killed indiscriminately in mysterious circumstances, it is his duty to make sure that justice will be done, and at the same time these abuses be stopped immidiately.

Like I said; previously Mr. Karzai should expell all foreign forces from his country so that his people can life in a peaceful atmosphere as they wish, practicing their traditions and maintaining their cultural heritage.

Sick of Iraq & Afghanistan

instead of trying to fight a diplomatic war which the Taliban and Al-Qaeda don’t do they send there vermin supporters and cowardly blow innocents up, then the west should fight fire with fire they should carpet bomb both countries and have done with it, instead of wasting billions of £/$ get our hero’s out carpet bomb the entire areas of Iraq & Afghanistan inevitably innocents will die thats war sadly, look at Sept 11th and July 07th eye for an eye I say.

For those who think they know everything, if you get it kicked and I didn’t do it, do not come here. If I worked for the media it would all work well for you but we have extreme diferences of being. Well as usual Mr. President we’re all still waiting, really :) all they had to do was let me back on with my own name, but they insist. NOW, we both know thats just not me.

I could fix it, do you want me to call my brothers? All of you I mean.

Do you think :) could be considered forgery, I kinda doubt it I think Clarence T. really likes me.

How about if I just do this, SIGH! Karzai, Karzai, Karzi.

I keep that circle on and just keep going thats what, then every once in awhile one of them makes me mad and I jump the fence and pull my predecessors. Thats what.
