AMMAN, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Tuesday welcomed the signing of a framework agreement in Sudan between Sudan's military and civilian political forces that paves the way for a civilian transition in the country.

In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry stressed the kingdom's full support of the agreement which constitutes an "important" achievement at this stage, praising regional and international efforts that contributed to the signing of the deal.

The ministry also expressed hope that the agreement will establish a new era that can meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for stability and prosperity and become a final one that contributes to enhancing security as well as political and economic stability of Sudan and the region.

On Monday, Sudan's military and civilian leaders signed a political framework agreement to end the political impasse and institute a two-year transitional civilian authority.
