AMMAN, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's border guard forces clashed Thursday with armed smuggler groups attempting to cross into the kingdom from Syria, resulting in the deaths of four smugglers, the Jordanian Armed Forces reported.
The remaining smugglers retreated into Syrian territory, the state-run Petra News Agency reported, quoting the armed forces.
The groups tried to cross the international border, exploiting unstable weather conditions and dense fog, said the report.
Large quantities of narcotics and an automatic weapon were seized during the clash, said the armed forces, reaffirming their commitment to utilizing all resources to prevent infiltration and smuggling by force.
