Jordan evacuates 6 Gazan children with cancer for treatment

AMMAN, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Tuesday it had carried out a medical evacuation for six Palestinian children from the Gaza Strip suffering from cancer.

The children were accompanied by 19 family members, as part of the Jordanian Medical Corridor Initiative, which entails treating 2,000 children from Gaza in Jordan and returning them to Gaza upon completion of treatment.

Since the launch of the initiative, a total of 39 children and 75 of their family members have been evacuated to Jordan by land and air. Among them, 17 children and their families have returned to Gaza after completing treatment in Jordanian hospitals.

The medical evacuation was conducted via the King Hussein Bridge crossing, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The patients were transported on Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft to the Marka International Airport and then transferred to the King Hussein Cancer Center for treatment.
