The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said it continues its essential humanitarian work in Gaza, despite ongoing challenges and difficult conditions.
In a statement posted on the X platform, UNRWA highlighted its schools role as critical shelters for displaced Palestinian families, with classrooms transformed into temporary housing units. These makeshift shelters are supported by teams of social workers who provide protection services and psychosocial support to affected communities.
Over 12,000 UNRWA staff members remain active in Gaza, delivering essential services in education, healthcare, and emergency aid distribution, the agency said.
UNRWAs work continues amid an unprecedented humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing Israeli military operations that have devastated Gazas infrastructure. The destruction includes hundreds of schools and UNRWA facilities, leaving hundreds of thousands of children without access to education for more than two years.
With winter approaching, the agency has emphasized the urgent need for shelter and heating supplies. In a post on X on October 25, UNRWA explained that shelter materials and winter necessities intended for displaced people are stored in warehouses in Jordan and Egypt but remain blocked from entering Gaza.
