2nd LD: Israeli army says Iran has fired 4 missile barrages at Israel

JERUSALEM, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said on Sunday night that Iran has so far fired four missile barrages towards the country.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The missiles have triggered sirens across northern Israel.

Israel's state-owned Kan TV news, citing an Israeli official, reported that the country would "not allow the equation Iran is attempting to create," adding that Israel is expected to retaliate against the missile fire.

Israeli Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced that schools and kindergartens would be canceled for Monday and that planned final exams would be postponed, under instructions from the Home Front Command.

Meanwhile, several media reports, citing Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps, said Iran launched ballistic missile strikes targeting Israel's Ramat David Airbase.

The Iranian attacks came after Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs earlier in the day, which Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said killed at least two people and injured 20 others.

Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf vowed to "halt the negotiation process" and "engage in direct confrontation with the enemy" if Israeli attacks against Lebanon continue.

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, also vowed on X to give "a decisive and painful response" to Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburbs. "Look at the sky of the occupied territories tonight," he wrote.

Meanwhile, sirens were reportedly heard in parts of Jordan on Sunday night.
